Job description

What you will do

The mission of Swapfiets is simple: to provide a fun and convenient way for people to get around their cities. Our engineering team of around 40 developers, testers, designers and product managers is distinguished by a positive and collaborative atmosphere, flexibility and ownership. As a member of the team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of transportation, one bicycle at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Together with the product team (product owner, designer, fellow engineers) you will help design and implement new app features to automate, standardize and improve company processes both internally and customer-facing.

  • You will maintain and guard the quality of the app’s codebase. You will continuously be a few steps ahead of the current architecture, preparing the app for greater functional complexity, while making sure that under the hood it remains simple, transparent and reusable. You will help to further automate new development processes.

  • You push the collaboration between frontend and UX forward by ensuring consistency in design system implementation, constantly improving components, and streamlining handovers.

  • Between delivering new features and maintaining the architecture, you will handle change requests from the business and ship patches using our automated continuous delivery process. You will help automating the continuous delivery even further.

  • You will collect and evaluate feedback about the app, both from digital tooling and directly in person from your colleagues - the users of the app. You will translate that input into changes that will improve the usability of the app.

What you bring to Swapfiets

  • Strong background in modern web frameworks and enterprise frontend application development. Experience in Angular/Typescript and reactive programming. Additional React or NX/monorepo experience is a plus.

  • You love beautiful UI and get annoyed when components are misaligned. You enjoy discussing visual improvements and suggesting different approaches to designed solutions, all with the goal of creating the best possible user experience.

  • Knowledge and ability to identify, design, execute, and document technical initiatives that improve the frontend platform or the delivery capability of the frontend team. You effectively negotiate project requirements with stakeholders and intuitively align each feature to architectural goals. You have a deep base of practical experience to draw from.

  • As a team player, you enjoy sharing your knowledge, learning from others and participating in a fun but rigorous engineering culture - via demos, pair programming, good documentation and thoughtful code reviews.

  • You are able to effectively communicate technical considerations and decisions across the entire development lifecycle through stakeholder discussions, design documents, system wiki documentation, and tech talks.

  • Familiarity with testing concepts and strategies and how to apply them across a large code base. You strive for quality at each stage of the development cycle. Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining automated tests at all levels.

  • Enthusiasm for our service and mission for more liveable cities. You don’t hesitate to take the lead to support our members and colleagues in the field for fair and sustainable outcomes.

  • Fluency in English.

What Swapfiets offers you

  • Your own Swapfiets (lend-lease) 🚲!

  • 32 vacation days (besides the standard 25 vacation days, you can also use additional 7 “Swap days” as you please)

  • A solid pension plan and a discount on your health insurance

  • MacBook or a Windows laptop (whatever you prefer)

  • Lots of responsibility, challenging work and friendly colleagues

  • Travel allowance (if you live more than 11 km away from the office - otherwise you’ll just use your Swapfiets, right.. 😎?)

  • Delicious lunch at the office for a very small contribution

  • Urban Sports Club exercise membership (to promote your healthy lifestyle!)

  • Education budget in order to improve your skills & knowledge

  • Learning programs developed by our L&D department

  • Lots of workshops and inspirational talks

  • One day off per year (paid by Swapfiets) to do voluntary work

  • [Optional] Two days per year to help out Swapfiets colleagues in the field and learn more about operations via direct experience (want to deliver bikes on the streets, work at a store or a warehouse for a day?)

  • Flexibility in working from home or at the office in Amsterdam

Peddling Towards Inclusivity at Swapfiets!
At Swapfiets, we believe in the power of diversity and inclusivity. While we are proud of the progress we've made, we acknowledge that we still have work to do to create the inclusive environment we envision. We are committed to continuous growth, learning, and fostering a workplace where everyone's voice is heard and valued. Join us on our journey to make Swapfiets an even more vibrant and inclusive community!

Procedure

You can now directly apply for this vacancy.

  • As soon as we think you've got what it takes to qualify for this position, our recruitment team will contact you to check some basic information and ask you about some of your previous successes related to the role. Next, you will go through a series of interviews to assess your experience, workflow approach, technical skills and cultural fit.

  • The first round is for a general overview and preliminary assessment with a few team members.

  • The second round consists of a more technical and practical interview. You will be asked to prepare a technical assignment upfront, which will then be reviewed by Frontend Engineers who will also ask for some modifications in a live coding exercise during the interview.

  • Finally, in the third round you will have a more relaxed talk with some other members of the digital team to assess the cultural fit.

  • Are you and Swapfiets still as enthusiastic at the end of the process? Then you will receive an offer to join the Swapfiets team!
