We are Swapfiets; started in 2014 and currently active in 70+ cities, across 9 different countries. At our HQ in Amsterdam, we work with around a hundred colleagues to offer the very best user experience to our customers, who in turn receive epic service from a team of 1500+ swappers and bike mechanics.

In this role, you will be part of the Engineering team with a focus on planning & operations. With your new team, you will be utilizing cutting edge cloud technologies for the implementation of our new planning engine, which will enable our operations teams to optimize their processes when planning service appointments at locations selected by our members.


Your goal

We are looking for the first UX Writer/Content Designer to pioneer the capability within our UX team at Swapfiets. You will be pairing with digital product designers, product managers, researchers and other colleagues across the organization to address and shape the content of the digital touchpoints across the user experience. You will come in with both a strategic and tactical eye, selecting the highest priority content projects to deliver change to our users’ experiences thoughtfully and quickly, while building processes and auditing our UX content landscape. In essence, you’re here to introduce UX writing/content design into our design process as a maker and shaper.

We’re looking for someone who takes initiative, is self-directed, open-minded, and is excited by the opportunity to be in both a hands-on and strategic role.


What will your responsibilities look like?

  • Write clear, succinct content for Swapfiets digital products, including microcopy, navigational elements, transactional emails and notifications

  • Maintain and help evolve content standards, standard methodologies, guidelines, principles, and taxonomies for various audiences and initiatives

  • Adjust writing for the audience and context– from product flows meant to convert prospects into members by helping them select the best bike and membership for their needs, to emails and notifications that welcome and onboard them to the Swapfiets experience and ensure they make the most of their membership.

  • Bridge the gap between brand and product in the areas of style, standards, and communication in a way that supports the overall customer experience

  • Apply insights from user research to guide your ideas, and validate your solutions with user testing and analytics.

  • Advocate for the value of the UX writing across the company, including best practices for scalable content strategies, localization, and accessibility.

  • Work with data analysts and marketing team to ensure that SEO keywords are integrated intuitively into the content of the website to support conversion optimization.

Job requirements

Your profile

You’ll be successful in this role if you have a strong hunger to learn, passion for user-centred design, and a great approach to collaboration.

  • 3-5 experience designing and writing content for digital products.

  • You write and speak English proficiently

  • You have experience with localization and translation processes.

  • You’re a self-starter, able to roll up your sleeves after you’ve prioritized the most valuable projects to tackle.

  • You have a knack for balancing more tactical and strategic work. Meaning you crave thinking big picture, but you drive that down into concrete action plans, and are driven by delivering incremental value to users.

  • You are hungry to introduce writing into the design process. You’re comfortable being the “first” within the team.

  • You are curious about your colleagues and users. You love to evangelize UX Writing/Content and are energized by this responsibility.
