Tech Lead

Job description

The impact that you will have in this role is massive; You will directly contribute to product development and play an integral part in building on our high-performance culture, structuring processes and shaping how engineering happens at Swapfiets. You will add value in shaping the future of Swapfiets’ Digital products, working at the core of massive company growth (+450% last year!) and providing epic service to 100K+ happy customers across the world.

In the Digital Group, our Engineering team has grown to 10+ developers, who collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Testers to solve user problems. We do this with two teams, each focusing on their own user segment. One team is responsible for creating solutions for colleagues (internal products), the other for customers (customer-facing products).

As Tech Lead, you will lead 10+ engineers across both teams, craft technical vision, align needs with business goals and product roadmap, and deliver it. With your knowledge and experience, you take responsibility in technical quality and help the team make smart decisions in e.g. infrastructure (Azure) and software architecture (C#). Plus, you love to get your hands dirty: writing code is what you like to do, therefore you get enough time to keep contributing to software development. The 3 most important aspects of your job will be:

Strategy & Planning:
  • Aligning closely with Manager Digital and Product Managers for product & technical goals within your domain, for defining the technical vision with the team;

  • Linking tech efforts to business goals; You know how to shape, mold and develop the Engineering team to ensure they are moving in the same direction as the business.

Engineering excellence:
  • Communication across teams; You are the first point of technical contact for their topic;

  • Coach the team on decision making, providing best practices for e.g. infrastructure and software architecture. For example, the implementation of microservices and developing for scale. Our stack is currently comprised of C# (ASP.NET) and MSSQL. You will influence when and how we move towards a truly scalable, robust and fault-tolerant platform and stack;

  • Get your hands dirty: contributing to core application service development as a member of our internal products team. You will have a direct impact on our operation and user experience.

Team Building & Management:
  • You play a leading role in reviewing, coaching and mentoring, ensuring the team feels engaged and valued;

  • You think actively about both the professional development of the existing team and work with Manager Digital for finding ways to attract and retain the best new talent.

Who you are:
  • You have relevant experience in a variety of contexts, during which you have built scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant systems adding tangible value to the business and its users.
  • A proven leader who has scaled up and managed within an online business, playing a key role in aligning the technology strategy with the business objectives. Ideally, you have a background in E-commerce, Logistics, Finance or Delivery (or a business with a physical component) but this is not a prerequisite.

  • Experienced in developing a clear vision and direction for your team. Youʼll be well versed in planning the career path of team members, ensuring engineers are engaged and inspired.

  • A role model for Engineers at Swapfiets. Perhaps you speak at conferences, events or meetups about best practices in engineering and team building.

  • You think in terms of the value added to the business and users and know the trade-offs to make between product and tech.

Hereʼs what we can offer you:
  • A diverse and international team with lots of different nationalities;
  • A high-paced environment with a bunch of smart people: you will get a lot of responsibility in which you have a high and direct impact on users and operational processes;

  • Spacious office on a great location near Amstel station: 5min ride with your Deluxe Swapfiets, provided by the company;

  • Learning opportunities, for facilitating your personal and professional growth;

  • Fun with our colleagues! We are a vibrant group of international people, taking part in activities like bootcamp, climbing, biking, hackathons, everyday lunches, Friday drinks and a bunch of other off-work activities;

  • And thereʼs more! Paid holidays, holiday allowance and a pension plan paid for by Swapfiets.

Please be aware that acquisition is not appreciated!
