We are looking for a CTO to continue the growth of the company by increasing the technical and digital capabilities and by building data-driven digital products that our members and employees love.

This role represents engineering, digital product & design and data & IT in the Management Team and reports to the CEO. The role is based out of Swapfiets HQ in Amsterdam.

Your goal

Our CTO will be characterized as an inspirational leader with an energetic personality and excellent communication skills who can motivate and create movement in the organization. You are the one to provide gateways and ensure successes. You bring deep knowledge, expertise and thought leadership on digital development, customer journey thinking, IT & security and data & analytics.

You are a natural leader who can effortlessly hire, build and lead agile teams in an international environment. In this role you will set the strategic direction of the Tech department, build/manage high performing teams and come up with non-traditional solutions to complex business challenges.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop the overall strategy, objectives and (innovation) roadmap for digital product & design, engineering, data & IT infrastructure in line with the overall Swapfiets strategy;

  • Drive continuous digital product innovations and technology improvements based on deep consumer insight by research and data;

  • Build out our website and digital apps to support customer growth and retention;

  • Design and execute our long-term platform strategy which includes buy or build decisions for our support functions like store operations, warehouse management and logistics;

  • Ensure that technology standards and best practices are maintained across the organization;

  • Contribute to standardization of technologies and evolution of best practices by collaborating with internal and external partners;

  • Promote a culture of autonomy, transparency, and teamwork, within a customer focused environment;

  • Drive the digital product agenda to ensure that Swapfiets members have the best possible digital customer experience which seamlessly blends with the physical service that Swapfiets provides;

  • Hire, develop, coach and support the tech leaders within their roles, more specifically, the Head of Engineering, Head of Product & Design & Head of Data & IT, which will be your 3 direct report. (40+ FTEs in total);

  • Help the team in pivotal decision making concerning Tech, Product, UX/UI, Data, IT, infrastructure, architecture and scalability;

  • Oversee the company’s IT roadmap, processes and (cyber)security efforts;

  • Align the company's technology resources with the organization's short and long-term goals;

  • Outline the implementation plan and execution timeline, and drive execution of these plans;

  • Align stakeholders and support team leads to define detailed digital product, digital engineering and data analytics implementation roadmaps, and prioritize requests;

  • Track markets and competitor trends and understands current and future digital product & engineering needs;

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders to reach the maximum business value possible in the organisation;

  • Create a strong culture to attract the right kind of multi -disciplinary professionals to the team.

Your profile

You are an excellent communicator and relationship builder with a keen interest for coaching people and managing partners at all levels of the organization. You bring a humble personality focused on listening to what is needed to help the organization, are self-aware and low on ego. Next to this you bing:

  • Proven international experience as a CTO or similar leadership role in a Scale-up;

  • Your CTO experience blends technical/engineering skills with product management responsibility in a data-driven environment;

  • Experience in international B2C organisations where technology was a proven accelerator for growth;

  • University degree or academic working / thinking level with 10+ more years of progressive relevant business experience, including in a leadership function;

  • Deep knowledge and passion around (emerging) technologies and their potential to change business and commerce;

  • Strong experience in product and design thinking;

  • Platform experience along with a proven track record in delivering innovative solutions from visioning to execution in an agile and iterative manner;

  • Strong data analysis skills, and experience in creating a data driven decision making culture;

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking and a proven track record of driving product & technology to enable business success;

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and communication within the management team;

  • Strong presentation skills and the capacity to explain complex matters in an easy to understand way;

  • Demonstrated business acumen combined with strong technical foundations;

  • A hands-on, team player who can deal with a lot of freedom and give the team space to create innovative frameworks so that results are achieved.
