Sr. Frontend Engineer - React, Next.js
Netherlands, Noord-Holland, Amsterdam (HQ)Tech
Do you want to turn the world of cycling upside down and take the digital experience of more than 270.000 customers to the highest level?
We are Swapfiets; started in 2014 and currently active in 70+ cities, across 9 different countries. At our HQ in Amsterdam, we work with around a hundred colleagues to offer the very best user experience to our customers, who in turn receive epic service from a team of 1500+ swappers and bike mechanics.
In this role, you will be part of the Engineering team; the heart of our operation. Our website is a progressive web application that enables prospect users to order, pay, and schedule the delivery of their Swapfiets in different languages and regions. It's all about converting new customers into proud Swapfiets members.
Together with the product team (product owner, designer, fellow engineers) you will design and implement new features to help our customer understand the Swapfiets product and purchase their bike subscription. You will maintain and guard the quality of the app’s codebase. You’ll continuously stay a few steps ahead of the current architecture, preparing our e-commerce solution for greater functional complexity, but making sure that under the hood it remains simple, transparent and reusable. You’ll be helping automate more and more development processes.
In between delivering new features and maintaining the architecture, you will handle change requests from the business and ship patches using our automated continuous delivery process, no sweat. You will help automating the continuous delivery even further.
You will collect and evaluate feedback about our e-commerce website, both from digital tooling and customer interviews. You will translate that input into changes that will improve the website.
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience with REACT & Next.js. You’re using it and are a fan! You’re not shy from explaining fellow engineers the ins and outs of this framework. Good knowledge of TypeScript with all its syntactic sugar, but also comprehensive understanding of underlying ECMAScript concepts.
Experience in B2C companies or creating products for B2C markets
Solid CSS and HTML skills.
A good eye for beautiful UI and a sense of how to create the best possible user experience.
Ability to write clean, reusable and future-proof code (if you can demo it, that’s a big plus).
A drive to create scalable software and an awareness of programming patterns and best practices.
Self-motivation to write automated tests.
Knowledge of (and experience with) Scrum.
Communication skills necessary to give demos and exchange knowledge. And in general to keep the work atmosphere fun.
Plenty of courage: you are not afraid to show entrepreneurship and to take responsibility.
Fluency in English.

Next, you will be introduced to one of our Engineers and the Team's Product Manager for a follow-up interview.
The second round is a technical interview with the Frontend Lead where you will be asked to prepare a technical assignment upfront.
The last round is a chat with our Engineering Manager.
